Who We Are
The Southern African Memon Foundation (SAMF) was formed in 1984 when Mr. Rangoonwala of the World Memon Foundation (WMF) visited South Africa.
The idea of the SAMF was inspired by him as an independent body, not affiliated to the WMF.
The initial aim of the SAMF was to assist people who could not obtain finance due to lack of security. Money was advanced, free of interest, to deserving individuals and families. This however, was later abandoned owing to the fact that the Foundation could not assist more applicants due to a lack of funds. Thanks to the Almighty, the Foundation did not lose any money and numerous projects have since been undertaken with great success.
The mission of the SAMF and its members is to undertake welfare work in our communities so that we may serve those most in need of it. We also take great pride in working alongside many other distinguished charity organizations to best serve the needs of communities. Further, we participate in natural disaster relief efforts and community projects.

— LILAH
LILAH: means ‘ for Allah’, comprises any form of charity given in the cause of Allah on a voluntary basis. This charity is over and above zakah that a person is liable for. Zakah can only be spent directly on the poor, and not on projects such as construction. However, Lilah can be used for the construction of Masjids, schools, wells etc.

— ZAKAAT
ZAKAAT: One of the most important principles in Islam is that everything belongs to Allah, thus wealth is held by people, in trust. The word Zakat means ‘ to purify’. All Muslims who can afford to must give zakat in order to purify their wealth.
